String Lake in Spring

String Lake, Grand Tetons Nat’l Park, WY

One of the more nerve-racking shots from the trip, I shot the milky way rising over String Lake around 2 am. Shooting alone on the banks in pitch darkness, and in the middle of mating grizzly country, I freaked myself out on more than a few occasions when loud crashes in the water echoed throughout the park. Ducks, moose, elk, who knows what the sounds were.

But as I dialed my settings in, the milky way perfectly rose into place over the course of three hours, with the silence and peace of the lake calming my busy mind.
